Countries offering teaching jobs to the teachers of other countries will impose strict regulatory rules which might make our teaching career come to halt suddenly. In order to help sustain our career in those countries, we will need to have a police clearance certificate specifying that we do not possess a criminal or conviction record. This is required by many countries to be provided along with the visa application itself, as they believe this will help them protect the rights of their children and from potential child abusers.

In the modern world of teaching jobs, these certificates are considered even more important that the passports we have. Some countries do not even allow people to search for teaching jobs without a proper police clearance certificate. Different countries give a different name for this record; nevertheless it can be defined as any document that is capable of giving a complete background description of ourselves and the fact that we do not have a criminal or conviction record before. This document is to be provided by everyone who wishes to apply for a teaching job abroad, regardless of whether they have been convicted or not.

There are certain countries where you will be able to get teaching jobs without a proper clearance certificate; however, you will be at your own risk in such situations, as they might lead to termination of your work order at any point of time.

Thailand has been the most recent victim of this issue as an American teacher was arrested by the immigration officers from America in the month of August, in the year 2006. The arrest was made in Thailand and as the arrest was made for a murder charge on him, this incident was greatly publicised all over the world. Hence, there are very strict and rigorous background information checkups for teachers applying for the teaching jobs in Thailand.

The certificate needs to be taken along with us at all times and it is always best to keep a set of copies at home after which you are free to take the original along with you when you leave for the workplace abroad. It should be available with you all times in original and they are not allowed to be used in scanned or digital formats. Also, after the contract period, it is important to get a police clearance certificate from the police in the country where you had been working; this will help you in maintaining a perfect record of yourself for the future.

This additional precaution helps you in proving your clean record to the next institution, to which you apply for a teaching job. In countries like New Zealand, United States of America, United Kingdom and Australia, separate divisions like the Ministry of Justice in Wellington, the local police, Criminal Records Bureau check and the Australian Federal Police in Canberra can issue a certificate to this effect.

Physical therapy education is offered in many colleges across the United States especially now, with its increasing popularity continuing to rise. There are different types of programs offered catered to meet the differing needs of students all over the world. For example, there are colleges that are mindful of the needs of working students and so these institutions decide to offer online or distance education. Other colleges decide to implement a six-year doctorate program for students straight out of high school.

So what college you go to really depends on your needs and the circumstances surrounding you. The factors you need to look at which may affect your needs include location, tuition fees, school reputation and affiliates (if any), size of the PT department, college ranking, professors, and the overall quality of education offered in that institution. The more meticulous you are with this decision early on in your career, the better off you can start your career when it’s time to do so.

Currently, the American Association Of Physical Therapist requires a minimum of a master’s degree in physical therapy before you can start a career as a therapist, in agreement with the rules of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. In the coming years, these rules may change to require a doctorate degree in physical therapy instead, as an entry-level requirement for practice. Despite this, the popularity of physical therapy as a career continues to soar among students and even those looking for a career change.

One thing of note is that physical therapists are only allowed to see patients who are referred by other medical practitioners.However, with a doctorate degree, therapists can be independent practitioners, that is, they can diagnose and treat patients who are afflicted with disability, mobility, and motor function problems and do not need referrals from other doctors first to treat patients.

School rankings are a good way to help you choose where you want to go for your PT education. In 2008 the University of Southern Carolina (USC) topped the usnews.com list. The following schools were listed among the top 10 schools for Physical Therapy Program: Washington University in St. Louis, Northwestern University in Chicago, MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, University of Pittsburg, University of Delaware, US-Army-Baylor University, University Of Iowa, Arcadia University Pennsylvania and University of Miami.

USC offers a three-year Doctorate for Physical Therapy Program, which requires completion of 115 units in six semesters and two summer courses. The curriculum also requires participation in clinical exposure and experience throughout the three-year program. Finally, the dPT designation is awarded to students who finish with a GPA of 2.75 and who complete all coursework, requirements, and clinical clerkship in the three-year allotted time.

At the time of writing, the estimated tuition fee for this doctorate program in USC is around $120,000. However, this amount is subject to future increases. There are other options available as other mid-sized schools’ tuition per year is pegged at around $20,000. This fee does exclude books, allowances and other course supplies though, but an education from a reputable institution does pay off in the long run.

So start your career in physical therapy off on the right foot by choosing among the best colleges around. It may take a bit of sacrifice, but the rewards are more than worth the early sacrifices.

However, there is an unfortunate but common misconception out there that if you are pursuing the degree online, then these financial aid programs no longer apply.

This is simply not true.

Even if you have enrolled yourself into an online program, you still have access to a lot of the financial assistance programs out there. And this fact does not change regardless of whether you are studying part-time or full-time.

That’s why you need to do your homework carefully, and check out all the financial aids available to you. In some cases, all you have to do is ask and you’ll receive the assistance.

In other cases, you will have to send in your application and the aid is dished out to selected individuals based on merit or some other qualification criteria.

But whatever the case, if you don’t ask or apply, you won’t get. And in this current economic climate, every bit of monetary help is more than welcome, right?

These can help you foot the bills for your academic books, computers, tuition, clinical fees, supplies and much more. And if you are working, some of these aid can literally help pay for your taxes too.

So what kinds of aid are available out there?

Broadly speaking, the financial aids fall into the following broad categories: Federal Student Aid Programs, Employer Tuition Assistance, Student Loans, Scholarships, and Fellowships & Grants.

The Department of Education’s federal student aid programs are the ones you will want to tap on first.

This is because some of these aid programs come in the form of outright grants, which simply means that unlike a loan, you do not have to repay the government. It is literally free money for the taking.

One such grant is known as the Pell Grant, and the amount of the grant can change on an annual basis. At the moment, you can expect to get about $5000 from the grant, but this depends on the funding available, and also some other criteria such as your financial status, your costs, and whether you are pursuing a full-time or a part-time course.

And if you are in real need of financial help, there is the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). Again, it’s a grant so you do not have to repay the government, so if your circumstances warrant it, you should look into applying for this grant.

As a pointer to get you started, some other grants and aid schemes you may want to consider are the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG), Federal Work-Study (FWS), and Federal Perkins Loan programs.

Do note that some of these are in the form of loans, so you will need to repay the money with interest. Thankfully, the interest rates are really low, and you can usually wait until you graduate before you need to start repayments.

1. Training Students To Sense God
The focus of a Christian education is to train students to sense the Spirit of God within their heart. Moses learned this in his burning bush experience in the wilderness. Paul learned it on the road to Damascus and in the subsequent three years in the Arabian Desert. Jesus, Himself, after going to the desert, returned in the power of the Spirit and began a miracle-filled ministry. We should focus Christian education on releasing the revelation of God within the heart. We should use our minds and books to help us clarify, understand, and validate the revelation that is flowing within us.

Out of the heart come the issues of life. The mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart, and life and death are in the power of the tongue. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that students fully understand their hearts, and know how to sense the movement of God within their hearts.

“The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds persuasiveness to his lips.” (Proverbs16:23)

2. Training Students To Live In The Spirit
The Bible commands us to walk in the Spirit, to pray in the Spirit, and to live in the Spirit. To do this effectively, we must learn, as Jesus did, how to see vision and how to hear God’s voice. Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice.” Therefore, the continuous training emphasis of a Christian education in both private Christian grade schools and Christian colleges, should be to bring students daily into interaction with the voice and vision of God.

3. Providing Students With A Biblical Foundation
A thorough acquaintance with the Bible is foundational, so that God can speak to them through the Logos and so that they can test all revelation they receive against the Scriptures. At all times we should go back to Scripture in prayer, saying, “Show me, Lord, if what I have experienced is compatible or comparable to Your Holy Word.” Therefore, we provide students with an extensive “Through the Bible Series” that will give them an outstanding experience with and knowledge of the Scriptures.

4. Training Students To Eat From The Tree of Life
We have a choice when we come to learning: We can eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, or we can eat from the tree of life. Both trees were present in the Garden of Eden. One was forbidden and one was allowed. We were forbidden to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and encouraged to eat from the tree of life.

What is the tree of knowledge? What is the tree of life? May I suggest that the tree of knowledge is the independent use of our minds, where we try to figure out for ourselves what is good and what is evil. Even if we use the Holy Scriptures in our pursuit of this knowledge, we can still run amuck. The Pharisees did. Paul did. But then he learned that he needed the revelation of the Holy Spirit to help him interpret Scriptures, and he prayed in Ephesians 1:17,18:

“That the God of a Christian education would incorporate Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints….”

The tree of life is in our hearts. Jesus is the Vine and we are the branches (Jn. 15). There is a life flow (revelation) through the Vine to our hearts which nourishes us and sustains us and allows us to bear fruit. And that fruit remains. A Christian education should focus on training students to eat from the Tree of Life.

5. Training Students For All Of Life
“The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof” (Ps. 24:1). Therefore, we train people for all areas of life. We do not recognize a sacred/secular split. Whether a students vocation/ministry is within or outside structured church positions, a Christian education is for every student. And students may find that you work both inside and outside structured church positions at the same time. Paul was a tentmaker. Jesus was a carpenter. Abraham was a wealthy businessman as well as a great spiritual and political leader. Multiplying talents under the leading of the Spirit of God is surely biblical, even commanded (Matt. 25:14-30). We need fully trained spiritual men and women serving and leading in each and every job and vocation. This is God’s plan for us: to be seated with Him in heavenly places in Christ Jesus and rule with Him through the gifts and graces He has given to us.

6. Helping Students Discern Their Basic Heart Motivation
I believe God has placed within each person at least one basic heart motivation which helps guide his ministry and vocational development and placement. In the course of a Christian education should study about these basic heart motivations and take profiles to help them discern the motivation(s) and giftedness God has placed within them. They should interact with the faculty and advisors to explore and to clarify what these gifts and callings are.
